cabbage language

CABBAGE LANGUAGE, by Robert Duncan Gray, collects Gray’s debut novella THE SON OF THE SUN with AMATEUR PORNOGRAPHY, a selection of the author’s best poetic works.

.
CABBAGE LANGUAGE will turn you over. It will put you where you need to be. It will teach you all of the new positions—even the ones you’re afraid to know.

.
In reading CABBAGE LANGUAGE, I felt as though I was ready to celebrate the end of the world with Solomon Thunderbeast, a new bleak hero in the literary canon. CABBAGE LANGUAGE continues to floor me in its perfect phrases, each one spare, beautiful, and often so very funny. Sentence by sentence, I never wanted it to stop.

The Suicidal Moose by Andrew Wayne Adams

"The pirate—Captain Whiskeycola—scanned the room with a bulging eye while he tapped the handle of a sword at his belt. As if daring us to ask why he had a moose on his shoulder instead of a parrot."

eggs and people

Half of you happened before your mother was born. When your mother was an embryo.

You were tiny. A single cell. About the size of a printed full stop.  If your mother was 30 when she had on your 18th birthday you were over 48 years old.

This is your real age.

I guess.

Compass by Dani Sandal

"It’s three in the morning and my wife is standing in the doorway of our garage in flannel pajamas and that pink robe she’s worn since high school. She’s watching me use a red Gerber spoon to dip into the urn and finally she goes, “Bobby, you just can’t do it — it’s too morbid. What kind of ceremony is that anyway, to shoot someone out of a gun?”  - - Dani Sandal

Tokyo Girls in Science Fiction

http://issuu.com/napmagazine/docs/tokyogirls

This was absolutely dead on fuckin great!! I want more of this Kyle Hemmings fella. Just finished re-reading Burrough's Soft Machine this weekend and then woke up Monday morning and read Tokyo Girls in Science Fiction. Feels like cut ups in some ways. But not Burroughs. Of course. It is almost like if Murakami and Burroughs shared a body. YES! This is one of those rare collections that I will re-read. And re-read again. Thank you mister Kyle Hemmings whoever you may be!!

stella fella

Granny Hops liked the old street junky cleaners. They swept the streets and popped open a Stella. On their breaks. Granny Hops plopped herself on the curb with them. Brought her own Stella. Granny Hops was one for the Stellas.

THE FLYING SCOT

It was the mating season.

During the mating season a Flying Scot is infested with coloured mushrooms. Blooming around the snatch.

We cracked crackers and got pasted. Ate Johnny cakes. Had a chinwag about the New Puritans.

The New Puritans had high grip quota and the whole country was post cream.

The villagers were dancing around pre-fabs.

THE NEXT BIG THING

The poet friends Anna Stearman and Adam Zdrodowski introduced me to The Next Big Thing where I write about an upcoming book- my poetry collection – Mu (So) Dream (Window):

1) Where did the idea come from for the book?

A Korean Robinson Crusoe with lost parrots and a small lint free cloth, fire chicken on a fire island, a flying bird teahouse, the Gobi desert, live animals crawling in the shops, an Egyptian poet named Rumi, morning glories, larvae boiling on the streets, rainbow warriors, barebacking a man from Texas with beautiful cheekbones, Korean pizza with hot sauce, searching for ham and finding spam, everybody wanted to go to Japan but everybody just held hands, there were no tapeworms in the chamber pot, doraji doraji doraji, mother and twinkling boys, a garment of rice, tender loins, the lights of the night commute, mongolian mermaids, dream brothers and dream lovers, 200 dreams under the broad sword, Zen blud lust dharma toppled rice cakes, tonked up testy and smiling a cock gr…

heartworn highways

I am looking at just boiled potatoes. I can share a porch with an old man and fantasize about his hands on my neck. We can do many things with our breath. Such as syncopate or synchronize. I think you can guess which one is better. This persons eyes begins to close. This person sleeps. It is romance. A new life comes easily after this, a growl.
